Travel bags and suitcases on wheels: tourist, small and large
Before we decide to buy a suitcase or a travel bag, we should answer a few questions -by what means of transport will we most often travel with it? What do we most often carry in a suitcase? The answers to these questions can help you choose the right suitcase.
Types of travel suitcases
The type of suitcase is most often determined by the material or material from which the product is made. Choosing the right material is of great importance in the case of a suitcase - it affects its resistance to dirt, damage or even moisture. On the market, you will find soft suitcases - made of polyester material and fibers and hard - made of plastic, aluminum, carbon, polycarbonate, glass fiber, polypropylene, or other material resistant to mechanical damage. We also have a wide variety of colors and sizes to choose from - small handy cabin models to large, packed, large suitcases.
Good cabin and travel suitcases
Cabin suitcases, i.e., those that we take with us directly on board the plane, should be light, handy but also resistant to shocks and damage, especially since we often carry valuable equipment and electronics in them. Aluminum suitcases will work best because they are very resistant to damage. When traveling with a suitcase around the airport, it is also worth paying attention to the comfortable telescopic handle and maneuverable wheels that rotate 360 degrees.
A large travel suitcase must accommodate most of the items that we take with us - it should have the largest capacity and as many compartments as possible for various items. If we often travel by plane, it should also be as hard and durable as possible - so as to withstand falls to which it is exposed during airport transport. In the case of bulky luggage, a suitcase on four wheels rotating 360 degrees will definitely improve the comfort of driving.
Hard suitcase: plastic, carbon, aluminum
Hard suitcases are usually chosen by people who frequently travel by air and appreciate the safety of their luggage. These models are made of hard and durable materials, i.e., ABS (acrylonitrile-butadiene-styrene copolymer), PC (polycarbonate, also called polycarbonate), PP (polypropylene), aluminum. Such suitcases are resistant to dents and cracks, which are easy to find in air transport. Importantly, models made of the above materials can withstand a pressure of even several dozen or several hundred kilograms. So you do not have to worry that the items in your luggage will be damaged or crushed after placing them in the luggage hold of the aircraft.
A soft fabric suitcase or a travel bag
Soft suitcases, like travel bags, are made of soft synthetic materials such as nylon and polyester. Certainly, these types of models are much less resistant to damage, dirt and provide less protection against moisture than their plastic or aluminum counterparts. They will not work for air travel. But they may be suitable for people traveling by car with limited luggage capacity. Due to the greater flexibility, it may also turn out that they are much more capacious and we will be able to fit more things in them than in hard, inflexible models. However, it is worth remembering that stuffed and crowded things can be damaged, broken or rubbed due to the lack of appropriate protection.
Light travel suitcases with wheels
In addition to the material and capacity, the weight of the suitcase is also important. The lightest models will be made of ABS, polycarbonate and polycarbonate (their weight varies, but usually does not exceed 3 kg). Polypropylene and aluminum suitcases are also very light. However, it is worth remembering that a harder and, at the same time, heavier material can translate into a higher resistance to damage of both the suitcase itself and its contents.
Inexpensive travel suitcases on wheels
The most common models are those with two or four wheels. The 4-wheel models are more durable and agile. It is best if the wheels in the suitcase rotate 360 degrees - this increases the range of maneuvering with the suitcase and thus its and our mobility. It is also worth paying attention to the fact that the wheels are made of damage-resistant material.
The suitcases available on the market are usually divided into small, medium and large models. The group of small suitcases includes:
small cabin and travel suitcases
Used as hand luggage, which we take with us on board the plane or to the luggage compartment on the coach. The most popular dimensions are 55 cm x 40 cm x 20 cm. Usually, the capacity of a hand-held suitcase does not exceed 40 liters;
diameters and large suitcases
Used as the main luggage, most often placed in the luggage compartment of an airplane or a coach's trunk. The most popular size of a large travel suitcase is 80 cm x 50 cm x 30 cm. Medium suitcases usually have a capacity not exceeding 60-70 l, while the capacity of a large suitcase can reach even 120 l.
Which suitcase to choose, hard or soft? Suitcase for plane, coach, car, train
Before buying, it is worth analyzing, first of all, how often the suitcase will be used, under what conditions and how much money can be spent on it. The most important thing is to make the decision about choosing a suitcase on the basis of our previous experience ace travel experiences. A suitcase for an airplane, especially the one in which we transport electronics and valuable items, should be made of a hard, damage-resistant material. Due to the movement around the airport - it should also be light and handy.
When it comes to a suitcase for a coach, train or car - it is worth considering what we will transport in it. If valuable items, e.g., a laptop, tablet or camera, we should care about the strength of the material and impermeability of moisture. If it is mainly clothes and soft things, we may care more about its flexibility, but it is also important that the suitcase does not let moisture through.
